Dear Petr Laube,

I just like to make you and others know that during December 2010 the e-list for European straw bale building had quite a few postings about diffuse ceiling/roof structures (as well as about the troubles of using OSB in straw bale buildings.
If you understand English I suggest you have a look at the archives: http://amper.ped.muni.cz/mailman/listinfo/strawbale

On http://permalot.org/en/fotoalbum-3 you can see how we made our S.B. diffuse ceiling roof (And I can't advice anyone to do it with SB: Much too much work/time!).

In general I have very limited knowledge about carcinogenic materials such as 'Isover' (Mineral wool insulation), and can't advice well, however I would advice you to increase the insulation in the roof to 30 cm; It's current Danish standards, and judging the future energy trends it's good to follow them already now. (The space is easily made with 'I' beams, such as the ones from Steico.). Which also opens up for using blown in cellulose insulation (and suddenly you're building technique suits to something worth discussion on an 'Eko' mailing list?)

Last but not least: About the roof ventilation space. Much depends on the final roof. There's big difference on the needs under a green roof or f.x. Tondach tiles. In general I wouldn't advice less than 4,5 cm.
For our new project for our educational centre, Jakub Wihan came up with a great solution of using the top profile of the Steico 'I' beam as the space creator for the ventilation area, by mounting boards on top of the beams, and thin breathable plates under the top profile of the I beam. Below the I beam we use boards every 40 cm and 2 layers of 'sadro karton', with about 30 cm cellulose insulation; Breathable and Natural.

Zdravim,
Ing. Max Vittrup Jensen
